PETALING JAYA: MyKad holders can now renew their driver’s licence at all
National Registration Department offices in the Klang Valley.
NRD director-general Datuk Azizan Ayob said MyKad holders could conduct the
transactions at the department’s offices in Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur, Klang,
Kajang, Seri Kembangan, Salak Selatan, Kepong, Ampang Jaya and Putrajaya.
“However, we can only process the renewals for cars and motorcycles for the
time being while licences for heavy vehicles can be renewed at these offices by
the end of this month,” he said at the NRD headquarters yesterday.
Azizan said there would be no extra charge to renew driving licences at NRD
offices.
“There will also be no need to fill any forms. Just show the MyKad to the
officers at the counter and make the payment,” he added.
He said those who wanted the normal paper-based driving licences could still
get a copy of it from JPJ.
“It is not necessary but we encourage those going overseas to do so (get the
paper-based driving licence) since they would need it to apply for driving
licences in those countries,’’ he added.
Azizan said MyKad holders, who had not updated their driver’s licence
information could do so at the NRD offices.
“JPJ has been supplied with 613 units of the Mobile Card Acceptance Devices
(MCAD) and 1,600 Key Ring readers (KKR) while the police have more than 1,500
MCADs and 11,470 KKR units,’’ he added.
