TABUNG Haji is setting up an on-line system with the National Registration Department in a move to check the withdrawal of savings using fake identity cards, said the Prime Minister’s Department parliamentary secretary Datuk Noh Omar.

Speaking at the Parliament Lobby, he said this was one of the steps taken after a total of RM8.9mil was swindled from three accounts in Tabung Haji this year.

“One account had eight fraudulent withdrawals from April 16 to June 22, ” he added.

Another account was withdrawn on six occasions from Aug 11to Aug 17while the third was withdrawn three times from July 17 to July 20.

Earlier, he told Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed (BN – Shah Alam) the withdrawals were made using fake ICs.

“The details of the depositors were correct but the photo and thumbprint was of the person who made the withdrawal,’’ he said.
